News

The Centre is holding an enrolment week between 20th and 24th August 9.30am to 4pm for new education and training courses starting in September 2012.  Courses include:

  • Essential English, Maths and ICT Skills
  • Women Moving On
  • The Detail in the Retail
  • Baby Massage
  • PC Skills
  • Aromatherapy and Reflexology
  • Beginners' Chair Yoga

Staff and women from the Centre took part in  a mobility visit to Sofia as part of the Grundtvig Learning Partnership SOPHIE: Developing women's skills for the future labour market.  The women, together with other women from Spain, Poland, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Italy, took part in discussions and workshops looking at the barriers for women to gaining employment within their respective countries.

A group of women from the Centre recently undertook a study visit to the Battle of the Boyne site near Drogheda.  This was supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Ballybeen Peer Education Project held a free health fair and family fun day in the Enler Complex on Saturday 21st April.  Have a look on Facebook/BallybeenWomensCentre at the photos.

Ballybeen Women's Centre recently ran a political awareness programme which included a visit to the Dáil Éireann in Dublin.  This programme was supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs' Peace and Reconciliation Fund.

As part of the celebrations for International Women's Day, staff took part in a march from the Art College to Belfast City Hall which was followed by a rally.   The theme of this year's celebrations is 'Past, Present and Future',  which recognises women's past struggles for equality while highlighting that there is still a long way to go in claiming equal rights.

Staff, management committee members and users of the Centre met with Diane Dodds, MEP, at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday 14th March 2012. 

The First Minister visited Ballybeen Women's Centre on Thursday 16th February.  Mr Robinson was given a tour of Centre and our Childcare facilities including Creche, Two's Room and Pre School.  Staff had a meeting with Mr Robinson when they had an opportunity to tell him about the work of the Centre and plans for the future.
